The Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Workshop explores the concept of emotional intelligence (EQ)—the ability to recognize\, understand\, and manage emotions in oneself and others—and demonstrates why it’s more crucial than IQ or technical skills in leadership and personal success.  \nThe workshop breaks EQ into four core skills that will be reviewed and discussed in detail:\n1. Self-Awareness: Recognizing your emotions and their impact.\n2. Self-Management: Controlling emotional responses and adapting to change.\n3. Social Awareness: Understanding others’ emotions and perspectives.\n4. Relationship Management: Building strong interpersonal connections\, resolving conflicts\, and inspiring others. \nNote: Each section includes strategies and practical tips to improve EQ skills. \nThis workshop has been developed by and will be presented by Chad Johnson of Fine Line Consulting. Chad is a speaker and consultant with 25 years of frontline experience in the electric power delivery industry\, with roles ranging from distribution and transmission to substation construction and maintenance. After starting his career as a power lineman\, he now serves as Manager of Safety at an electric cooperative\, where he has led safety and leadership efforts since 2018. Chad delivers thought-provoking presentations on topics like emotional intelligence\, worldview\, speech mitigation\, leadership mindset\, and gaining a healthy perspective in the workplace. These sessions are built to engage everyone—from new hires to CEOs—and are grounded in both his practical experience and his academic training\, which includes a bachelor’s in psychology\, a master’s in organizational leadership\, and certification with the John Maxwell Leadership Team. \nAs with our other annual workshops and schools\, the Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Workshop will begin at noon on Day 1 (December 9) and end at noon on Day 3 (December 11) to allow attendees travel time to and from the workshop and to minimize overnight stays. DESCRIPTION:Session 1: Mon 1 pm- 4:30 pm\, Tue 8 am- 4:30 pm\, Wed 8 am – 12 pm\nSession 2: Wed 1 pm- 4:30 pm\, Thu 8 am- 4:30 pm\, Fri 8 am – 12 pm \nAn attendee only needs to attend one session to receive a certificate of completion. \nRegistration Fee:  $325 per attendee for member utilities/$475 per attendee for non-members \nThis program is designed for the lineman or employee who does not work in substations routinely. Emphasis is placed on safety during switching operations and restoration of service during outages. Basic instruction of substations\, relays\, identifying targets\, removing circuit breakers from service\, paralleling circuit breakers\, pre-planned switching and emergency switching are some of the areas covered. Extensive hands-on training is stressed to instill confidence in the employee to use a methodical approach to trouble-shooting and service restoration.

Instructors provide training on termination of URD cable\, load-break and non-load break elbows\, outdoor terminator preparation and installation. We review installation of URD cable\, direct buried and trenching/excavating equipment to meet OSHA training standard. Cable and fault locating techniques and equipment. Attendees receive instruction in tagging methods that can be used to identify circuits. Emphasis placed on hands-on training and field projects.

DESCRIPTION:Session 1: Mon 1 pm- 4:30 pm\, Tue 8 am- 4:30 pm\, Wed 8 am – 12 pm\nSession 2: Wed 1 pm- 4:30 pm\, Thu 8 am- 4:30 pm\, Fri 8 am – 12 pm \nAn attendee only needs to attend one session to receive a certificate of completion. \nRegistration Fee:  $325 per attendee for member utilities/$475 per attendee for non-members \nThis workshop is intended for employees with basic tree trimming experience. Attendees of this workshop will receive instruction in the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the criteria required by OSHA to be designated a Qualified Line Clearance Tree Trimmer. This knowledge will include recognizing nominal voltage present\, minimum approach distances\, and energy control measures among other issues. The workshop will include a full day of field exercises that will review basic line clearance tree trimming safety practices as well as how to incorporate the OSHA requirements into the daily work habits of the attendees. \n
