SUMMARY:RESAP Onsite Observer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The RESAP Onsite Observer Workshop is designed to introduce those new to the RESAP Onsite Observation process to the concepts and guidelines currently in effect\, and to refresh previous participants in effective observation and reporting techniques and in the goals of the Onsite Observation process within the RESAP program.  This workshop will greatly benefit Onsite Observers as well as Safety Personnel and Supervisors at the Cooperatives participating in the Onsite Observations. \nParticipants will review the Onsite Observation Document’s content and will include discussion of the purpose of the document with regard to assessing the performance of the Cooperative hosting the Observation.  The participants will be shown situations\, conditions\, and items noted in previous Observations and will see how those were addressed in the Observation summary and in the exit conference.  The need to observe\, record\, and present both positive and negative performance items will be stressed. \n\nThe philosophy of the new program is to provide honest and candid feedback to cooperative leaders to help them better understand their current state of safety performance.  This feedback can be used as important input into a safety improvement plan.\n\n\nThe observation process evaluates questions based on levels of meeting program requirements\, including an overall onsite team evaluation for each section of the onsite observation document.\n\n\nThe new evaluation levels and definitions are intended to help guide teams when conducting onsite assessments.\n\nCompletion of this Onsite Observation Workshop\, along with participation in an actual Onsite Observation\, will ensure the participant’s qualification as an Onsite Observer for the RESAP program for Tennessee Cooperatives.  This Workshop will also be a very valuable resource for those who will be hosting an Onsite Observation in the future.  NRECA\, TECA\, and the TN JT&S Program greatly appreciate the participation and assistance of all the Cooperatives and their employees with the RESAP program.

SUMMARY:Underground Roundup
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the 3rd Annual Underground Distribution Round-Up scheduled for Thursday\, March 28th @ Music Road Resort in Pigeon Forge\, TN… \nUnderground power distribution is a fact of life for many in the Tennessee Valley. In many locations nearly all new subdivisions have buried power lines\, while in others\, local ordinances or policies may actually prohibit the systems. At the same time\, older underground distribution systems are reaching the end of their lives\, and requiring significant maintenance or replacement.  \nDesigning\, installing\, repairing and replacing these systems are specialized and technical processes. In many cases\, poor designs or errors made in installation or maintenance may not become apparent for literally years\, when damaged equipment prematurely fails\, requiring emergency responses from the utility\, inconveniencing customers and costing the utility payers funds. \nThe Underground Distribution Round-Up was conceived by the members of the Oak Ridge Electric Department as a venue where utility workers\, trainers and suppliers could all gather to learn from each other\, exchange ideas on techniques and tools and explore areas of interest and overlap. \nCourses are being offered in three major areas of interest: Design\, Construction and Operations. Each course will be taught with qualified instructors familiar with our industry and area. There will also be plenty of scheduled time for attendees to visit with vendors who specialize in underground technologies\, some of which will demonstrate their tools and techniques on a special vendor demonstration stage.

SUMMARY:Supervisor & Manager Development Program\, Session 2
DESCRIPTION:(714.1) Change Is Hard: Guiding Your Team Through Complex Times\n\n\nWith waves of technical\, social\, economic and regulatory changes\, electric cooperatives now find themselves operating in what the U.S. military calls a VUCA environment (volatile\, uncertain\, complex\, ambiguous). In this environment\, supervisors must adapt to – and lead – continuous change at their co-ops. The types of changes differ\, yet the change process itself is predictable\, and so are the ways people respond to change. Supervisors who understand the most effective techniques\, and develop solid plans\, for navigating their teams through complexity\, chaos and confusion are better equipped to thrive in a VUCA world.\n\n\n\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\n\nUnderstand the supervisor’s roles and responsibilities related to changes at co-ops.\nLearn the typical causes of change and types of change and tools to effectively manage change.\nDescribe the reactions most people have to change and use techniques for managing these reactions.\nModel the attitudes and behaviors needed for a successful change initiative.\nAddress barriers to change.\nEffectively use the “4 Ps” of change communications:\n\nPurpose: why we have to do this.\nPicture: what it will look and feel like when we reach our goal.\nPlan: step-by-step\, how we will get there.\nPart: what you can (and need to) do to help us move forward.\n\n\n\n\nKEY TOPICS \n\nRecognizing typical causes and types of change\nSupervisors’ responsibility in implementing change\nTechniques for managing team member reactions to change\nPlanning process for implementing a change\nFuture change agents impacting co-ops\nThe “4 Ps” of change communications\nModeling expected attitudes and behaviors\n\nCERTIFICATE PROGRAM \nSupervisor and Manager Development Program \nCREDITS \n\n\nNRECA – 1 credit\nCEU – 0.6 credits
